You have the choice between the chronological and the functional professional resume.

Chronological CV

This is certainly the prefect professional CV, the one everyone thinks of first. Indeed, the experiences are listed within each section, following a backward chronology. The most recent ones are therefore at the top of the page. Logically, it is your most recent experience that recruiters are really interested in. By the way this type of CV format should be called the reverse chronological CV. It traditionally classifies your professional experiences by headings (Work Experience, Training, Languages, Interests) from the most recent to the oldest.

For each professional experience, specify the start and end dates of contracts (entry and exit), the company (name, address, size) and the job title, your responsibilities (one or two short sentences), the achievements and quantified results (by choosing those that best correspond to the position sought). Keep the same principle for the training section. If you are just starting out and have very little work experience, put the training section before the experience because the first thing the recruiter sees is always more impactful.

Functional CV

Also called a thematic CV, it ignores the history by emphasizing the skills rather than the chronology. It structures the professional experience section not around the dates, but the areas of competence of the candidate. It will be ideal for enhancing the skills of those with a lot of experience by optimizing the space on the resume.

The elements of the work experience are classified by skill areas or sectors. The point is to emphasize the skills acquired during your professional development. Here, skills mean all the knowledge, the competencies and the qualities necessary to perform the functions and tasks required by the job sought.

Much more difficult to build than a chronological CV, the creation of a functional professional curriculum vitae needs you to have a very clear vision in order to concretely identify what you could bring to the company. Take the time to think of your whole background, your professional project and the skills used in each of the positions held.
